This replaced a rusted metal register with damper in our home with laminate (looks like wood) flooring. My wife and I think this looks much nicer than the original register even if the original one had not rusted. The old register's dampers were all metal and rotated similar to how must plastic dampers on car vents work. This register's dampers are all plastic and the travel using the black tab visible in the close end of the picture between full open and full closed is a very short distance. Thus it is a little difficult to set intermediate positions if you wanted to. I just wanted to set this to full open so setting an intermediate position between open and close is not an issue for my application.

The floor registers can not handle any traffic, over the course of a year, every single register has a cracked and broken plastic base, and the tops no longer snap back into place. I contacted the manufacturer and they claim that all of their floor grates are "merely decorative" therefore not designed for actual use. Avoid purchasing from this manufacturer. I got what I needed, for a exorbitant price like I expected with the shipping/handling costs. Total costs were close to $30.00 for a silly heat register.
