The owners of The Root Cellar Café & Catering in Chapel Hill are planning to open a second location in Pittsboro in the new Penguin Place at Chatham Park.

The 3, 725-square-foot café will offer the same menu as the Chapel Hill location in the Midtown Market on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. But the Pittsboro location will have a more robust dinner menu and more outdoor seating. Owners Sera Cuni and Susan White are hoping to open the location by late summer 2017.

“We are thrilled to be opening in Pittsboro and have dreamed about this for several years” White said in a press release. “I grew up in Chatham County. Sera moved here in 2003, and we made Pittsboro our home together nearly seven years ago. We love this community and look forward to bringing our scratch-made food to Chatham Park and to helping our local economy grow.”

The Pittsboro location will also feature the restaurant’s family dinner and paleo family dinner program, offering a weeks-worth of scratch-made meals that customers pick up to eat at home.

The Root Cellar Pittsboro will anchor the new Penguin Place at Chatham Park, a 14, 400-square-foot retail space located at Chatham Park’s entrance at Russet Run and Suttles Road. (It will be behind the Bojangle’s on U.S. 15-501 and across from the entrance to Northwood High School.) In addition to The Root Cellar, Bottle Revolution, a bottle shop and bar in Raleigh and Morrisville, will also open in the new Penguin Place.
